This is a modest proposal for a reconsideration of Heritage Trail(s) at Fremantle Cemetery, which I put to the MCB in 2017.
It is confusing that there is a physical Heritage Trail, marked by an imposing stone entrance and a distinctive pebbled path, and a notional Heritage Walk Trail One (there is no Two) which exists as a printed map/guide and two webpages. The latter has only the one single point of coincidence with the former: the headstone of Henry Vincent.
As it's not easy to change the physical 'Heritage Trail', I suggest changing the name of the Fremantle 'Heritage Walk Trail One' to History Walk, the word 'History' to bring it in line with the Karrakatta Historical Walk Trail (One and Two).
I also suggest that the Heritage Trail have its own guide (becoming, perhaps, the anticipated Heritage Walk Trail Two). Said Heritage Trail is really one straight path lined with the headstones that were brought from the Skinner Street Cemetery and is lightly 'paved' with fine gravel pebbles of an orange colour (which could do with a top-up, by the way).
I have photographed all 135 memorial stones with a view to providing documentation of the Heritage Trail.
I have also made a selection as a suggestion for a Heritage Trail Walk Two. It's not yet a guide, but could form the basis for one.
