Thomas Blamey

Sir Thomas Albert Blamey (1884-1951) was a teacher at Fremantle Boys School from 1903 to 1906. During WW1 he rose to the rank of Brigadier General and served under Lt General Sir John Monash. Between 1925 and 1936 he was Chief Commissioner of the Victoria Police. During WW2, in 1942, Blamey became the Commander-in-Chief of the Australian Military Forces. He was promoted to Field Marshall in 1950. He was honoured with several knighthoods and military awards. A street in O'Connor is named after him.
