SMITH, James Lawson, arr. 2.6.1829 per Parmelia with wife Sarah. He was a carpenter and boat builder and and superintended the repairs to HMS Success which ran aground on a sandbank at Fremantle 28.11.1829. Repair work kept her at Fremantle for a year. The Admiralty subsequently made flattering reports on the suitability of jarrah. An order for 200 tons of timber was placed but could not be fulfilled because of the lack of milling equipment. Smith and his wife returned to Eng. 12.8.1832 per Sulphur.
