Leighton is the name of a beach, which got its name from Ann Leighton, and which is in the suburb of North Fremantle and therefore in the LGA of Fremantle. There is an invisible line between it and Mosman Beach, which is in the suburb and LGA of Mosman Park. There used to be a railway station at Leighton, popular because it was the nearest station to a beach. Recent developments include a condo or three, at least one of which is probably called Leighton Beach. Another seems to be called The Leighton.
Leighton is also the name of a WW2 battery which is on Buckland Hill, at some distance from the beach. It was one a number of coastal batteries (Fremantle, Point Peron, Garden Island ...) intended to defend against a possible attack. None was ever made.
