Abstract
ATOMI©ALIA is a work in progress, under lengthy development, which seeks to critically present atomic age ephemera in order to demonstrate the prevalence and complex reification of atomic energy as cold war ideology.
The often contradictory social semiotics of these material items, presented virtually on-line, promotes a challenge for scholarship to move beyond pop culture paradigms and embrace the culture of everyday life in order to explain not only the psychopathologies of nuclearism, but also the playfulness, incongruity and appropriation such artifacts evoke.
