French Architecture Professor Paul Virilio, the world's high priest of speed and war, has been dropping logic bombs on us for over thirty years. In these tales of our accelerated culture, or what I have called accelerated modernity, the speed of mass communications as well as the speed of war is what counts. In this scenario we have all become historians of Virilio's instant present where immediacy and ubiquity rule. But this is not necessarily the whole story of Paul Virilio or accelerated culture. This talk is based on my book Paul Virilio: Theorist for an Accelerated Culture in Polity Press Key Contemporary Thinkers Series.
