Ian Alexander was President of the Fremantle Society 2007-2010. He was a Perth City Councillor 1982-85, elected (Labor) MLA for Perth 1987-91, resigning from the party 1991 to sit as an independent until 1993. He stood unsuccessfully as the Greens WA candidate for Fremantle at the 2001 elections. He has a PhD in urban research.
He launched a novel, City of Sharks, 11 July 2018, National Hotel.
