Croke Street

Croke Street is in two separate parts, between Cliff Street and Henry Street, crossing Mouat Street. It was named in 1873 to honour Lt-Capt James Nias Croke, who was Harbourmaster from 1868. Croke Lane is a third part, running from Cliff Street to the recently named Little High Street. The Lane used to be Dalgety Street but was renamed to avoid confusion with the street of that name in East Fremantle. The new name was obviously chosen because the Lane more or less 'continues' the Street.

Most of the buildings on Croke Street are now utilised by Notre Dame University and so are indexed and described on that page. About eight of them are also mentioned on the pages for Mouat Street and Henry Street.
